Yes, some of these seesaw tippy bridges can be a bit awkward unless you jump the gap right on time - as I found out to my own cost too many times!!! - And as for the massive Frostclaw machine . . . there was no way I was going to use my spear on the tower while that thing could attack me -- even if I could then maybe pacify it with the spear afterwards . . . So, I went with destroy them both to make it a lot easier for myself - and it was so easy to do that I was a bit shocked - and there was no fight or panic with it at all . . .
