On June 29, 1995, the Australian software company Sausage Software officially released the first version of the HotDog 1.0 web editor. HotDog Professional 2.0 was released in 1996.

The program supported HTML 2.0, tables, forms, and the Netscape extensions available at its time of release, and boasted support for the proposed HTML 3.0. HotDog Pro included more features, such as expanded customization options, spellcheck capabilities, and unlimited file sizes.
