How does temperature affect the density of water? | Live Experiments (Ep 39) | Head Squeeze
Morna Fisken shows us how temperature can change the density of water.
What you need:
Hot water
Cold water
Pint glasses X2
Stirrer
Red and Blue food colouring
A thin piece of card or plastic
Instructions:
Fill up pint glass with cold water add blue food colouring
Fill up pint glass with warm water add red food colouring
Place the piece of card on top of the cold water and carefully sit the warm water on top of the cold water
See how water flows between the two glasses
With fresh cold and warm water, sit the piece of card on top of the cold water and then carefully place the glass of warm water on top of the glass of cold water.
IMPORTANT: This experiment involves hot water, please be careful not to scald yourself.
