In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, on the Japanese Version, it is possible to obtain Spike Shield, a badge that allows you to jump on spiked enemies without taking damage, WITHOUT the use of Vivian, and instead a very well timed sprint while riding Yoshi. The only reason you would want to do this is during a 100% Speedrun where you complete the Pit of 100 Trials BEFORE entering & completing Chapter 4!
