Military commanders have estimated they need to get around 6,000 people out of Afghanistan.

They say the flying programme has been operating at full pace – after chaotic scenes on Monday which forced the temporary closure of Kabul airport.

Britain is sending another 200 troops for Operation Pitting, but some of those on the ground are having to talk to, and work with, the Taliban, who control access to the airport.
