How status ailements work in Path of Exile

the duration of the ailments are:
Shocked: 276ms per 1% max life dealt as lightning
Chilled: 138ms per 1% max life dealt as cold
Frozen: 100ms per 1% max life dealt as cold
Burned will always be 4 seconds.
example:
i do a 100 damage crit with my ice spear on an enemy that has 400 health
so i did damage to him that took 25% of his total health pool
the time the enemy is frozen is 25 x 100ms witch is 2,5 seconds
the time calculated is only aplied to the damage done with the certain element
one more example:
in this case with glacial hammer, this skill converts 50% of the damage done to cold damage
i do a 100 damage crit with my glacial hammer on the same enemy
i still took of 25% of his health but only 50% of my damage was cold damage
this would be 12,5% of his health and the time the enemy is frozen now will be 12.5 x 100ms witch is 1.25 seconds
the shocked status will have the same calculation but can be stacked up to 3 times on the same enemy, and will reset the time for each stack.
the burned status will be 1/3rd of the damage done AS FIRE each second for 4 seconds
so doing a 100 damage crit with fireball on again the same enemy will damage him for 100 + 133,333 damage over 4 seconds
if the damage done that leaves a status affect on the target procs with a lower time then 300ms then the effect will not take place.
this will happen when for example you get a ring that adds 1-2 frost damage to an otherwise all physical attack,
when you crit the frost damage aplied will not be greater then (in this case) 3% of the targets health and the target will not
get frozen
PoE is going to be a free to play game and the developers are currently against any "pay to win" options but they are still
in the proces of making this awsome game and you can support them by buying a closed beta key with a
supporter pack for a mere 10$ on the path of exile website
