We’ll show you an easy to follow, step by step guide so your ribs will turn out flavorful, juicy and barbecued to perfection!

The first step is by prepping your ribs.

Depending on the ribs that you’re using, trim off the excess fat, meat, and membrane before adding any seasoning.

Then, coat if off with yellow mustard which will give it a nice crust while cooking.

Next, season the ribs with a spice rub.

You can use a premixed rub or combine cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt and pepper to create your own simple rub.

Let the ribs absorb the flavors my marinating them for at least 30 minutes, or if you have time, let the ribs marinate in the refrigerator overnight.

When you’re ready to barbecue, prepare the grill by cleaning and preheating it.

Before handling the charcoal or firing up the gas grill, make sure to protect your hands with heat resistant grill gloves in order to prevent burns.

If you’re using a gas grill, fire it up on medium high for 10 minutes then adjust it to low.

For a charcoal grill, use a chimney starter to light up the charcoal.

When the coals turn whitish grey in color, transfer the coals into a half moon shape keeping the center of the grill empty.

This will create a space for indirect cooking so you can cook the ribs slowly.

Place the grate in position and oil it using a paper towel with your tongs so the ribs will not stick.

Next, place the ribs, bone down, on the center of the grill away from the direct heat of the charcoal.

Cook the ribs without opening the grill for at least two hours.

After two hours, open the grill and remove the ribs to wrap them in aluminum foil. This will steam them to become extra tender.

Make sure that your hands are protected with grill gloves at this point as the grill can be very hot.

Place ribs back inside the grill for another 45 minutes to an hour.

Then, unwrap the foil and check the ribs for doneness.

They should reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit, but a good sign is that if you lift the ribs, the stack should be able to bend easily in the center.

That’s when you know you have fall of the bone ribs ready to eat.

In barbecuing ribs in particular, you should always be careful to protect the skin of your hands, as nothing can ruin a great plate of ribs than painful burns.
