After trying, and failing MANY times to beat Ogita, I think I've found the best way to defeat him.
The trouble started when I tried to beat him on easy, and normal. Funnily enough, I had a better time defeating him in HARD MODE. There are more steps in this mode, thus more opportunities to rack up the points.
In this video, I just squeaked by a victory, but I'd got a few thousand extra in previous runs. This is another thing to keep in mind - Ogita's score, and ability change each time you challenge him. Sometimes is score can be in the 3000s, and the next time it can be in the 8000 region.
One other thing I should note - you don't necessarily need to use dance fever to win. If you keep the combo going long enough, it's actually more beneficial to avoid using the dance fever, as it can make your score lower than if you would have just kept up the combo. This is only true for hard mode, as far as I can tell.

Others have mentioned that if you don't activate fever in hard mode, and keep a high streak, you should have a better chance of winning. I mentioned this in the initial description, but I thought it was worth emphasising.
