If you want to increase your YouTube channel’s watch time and get more views then playlists are the way to go! Video playlists can come in really handy. They are a great way to showcase your best YouTube videos to your viewers. Playlists are also a simple way to keep track of your favorite videos on YouTube. In this tutorial we are going over the steps on how to make a playlist on YouTube.
UPDATE: Since publishing this tutorial, YouTube has changed their layout for creators. Therefore, we’ve put together a new and updated tutorial on how to make a YouTube playlist.
1) Open Video Manager
The first step is to go your YouTube channel’s homepage. You can do this by clicking on your account thumbnail image at the top right corner to open the drop-down menu. After doing so, select “Video Manager”.

2) Playlists
Once you have arrived to the video manager page, select “Playlists”.

3) Create a New Playlist
You are now on your playlists homepage. If you have never created a video playlist before, you may see the message, “No playlists have been found”. Go ahead and select “New Playlist” at the top right of the page.
4) Choose a Title
After selecting the “New Playlist” button, you will be asked be to create a title. This step is important because you want to choose a title that is effective and interesting.
Great titles get more attention from viewers on YouTube. You also have the option to make this playlist private, unlisted, or public. Once you decide on which option you prefer and have created a title, click on create.
5) Add a Description
After creating your playlist, you have the ability to make edits and adjustments. The first thing you may want to do here is to add a description for your video playlist. In order to do so, select the option that says “Add a description”.
When creating your description always try addin
g in keywords that are relevant. This makes it easier for others to find your playlist. After you have finished filling in your description, select done.
6) Adding Videos
You can now start adding videos to your playlist. The first step is to select the “Add video” tab that is on the right side of the page.
After selecting, “Add video” you will be able to start adding YouTube videos to your new playlist. There are three ways to do so.
Video Search – Search for videos that you may want to add to your playlist.URL – If you already know the url of the videos you would like to add, then you can directly enter it.Your YouTube Videos – Add your own YouTube videos to your new playlist.
When you have finished choosing the video you prefer to add, go ahead and click select.
Playlist Settings
Once you finish adding videos, you are brought back to the homepage for your playlist. From here you can select “Playlist settings” to:
Change ordering of videosAutomatically add new videos to the top of the playlistChange privacy optionsAllow embeddingDelete the playlist
Make sure to save your settings!
Start Sharing
If you want to get more eyes on your video playlist, you must promote it! There are tons of different marketing strategies you can use but social media is one of the best options. YouTube allows you to share your playlist on social media. You can even use the “Embed” feature to post the playlist on your blog or website. Lastly, you can share it by emailing your friends and fans!
