How to Format Hard Drive or USB Drive on PS4 Console (File System Not Supported)
Turn on your PS4 and log in to your account.
Go to the main menu and scroll up to the top-right corner where your account avatar is displayed.
Press the "Up" button again to access the quick menu.
From the quick menu, select "Settings" (gear icon).
Navigate to Devices:
In the "Settings" menu, select "Devices."
Select USB Storage Devices:
Within the "Devices" menu, choose "USB Storage Devices."
Choose the External Drive:
Your connected external drive should be listed here. Select it from the available devices.
Format the Drive:
Once you select the external drive, you'll see an option to "Format as Extended Storage" or "Format as USB Storage." Choose "Format as Extended Storage" if you want to use the drive to store games and apps, or select "Format as USB Storage" if you want to use it for media storage (videos, screenshots, etc.).
Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the formatting process. Be aware that formatting will erase all data on the drive.
Wait for the Format to Complete:
The formatting process may take a few moments, depending on the size of the drive. Wait for it to finish.
