Hi, this 'How To' video shows how to install a remote control extender kit through cat5e or cat6 network cabling using the IR (Infrared) emitters and receivers. This is ideal when your A/V equipment (set top box, dvd, video streaming device) is hidden away in a cabinet or under the stairs.
The IR Receivers 3.5mm stereo plug terminates on an rj45 plug on pins 4 and 5 (Ring and Tip or left and right audio) and the ground/sleeve is on pin 8, this is plugged into the patch panel. Then on the other end plugged into the network faceplate in the living room is another rj45 plug wired exactly the same and this has a 3.5mm socket on it which allows you to terminate the actual IR receiver from the TV.
When you use twisted pair such as cat5 or cat6 network cable the IR signal can travel much further than using 3.5mm extension cables.
