How to install Trainz 22 on the Steam Deck using Bottles. ONE CLICK launches the game in Steam
Today we install Trainz 22 onto the Steam Deck using Bottles. Bottles creates an environment where Windows Applications can run on Linux. Although this video is slanted towards Trainz and the Steam Deck this info should be helpful to run any app/ game using Bottles and create a link to that on Steam.
What's in the video?
1. We install Bottles.
2. We configure Bottles including giving it permissions to access file locations.
3. We install Trainz 22 using Bottles.
4. We test Trainz 22 using Bottles on the desktop.
5. We add Trainz 22 to Steam using the Proton method, test it and then remove it. This is just for testing.
6. We add Bottles to open Directly open on Steam and then configure this link to directly open Trainz when it's clicked. This means only one click will be needed from Steam to launch Trainz.
7. We test the in-built route and controller support.
8. We add two more routes. We look at the issues when doing this.
9. We test the two downloaded routes.
10. Conclusion
The instructions how to use Bottles and how to configure it so links from Steam can directly open games/ apps using Bottles should apply to any Windows app/ game. Whether the game/ app will actually work and how well will vary. The instructions should also be compatible with other Linux distributions and not just the Steam Deck. The Steam deck runs a KDE Plasma desktop on top of an Arch Distro. In this case Bottles is being distributed as a Flatpak. Lots of other distros will also offer and open this file type but if you install Bottles using a different method then the FlatSeal config instructions will not be applicable. The rest should be fine.
The Steam Deck's a full handheld PC from Valve. It uses a custom AMD mobile APU that delivers enough power to game on. But is it worth it? Is it right for you? Could it replace your laptop? Watch the video and decide for yourself.

And finally this SteamDeck was paid for using my own money and all thoughts are my own. No one has paid me for this video nor has anyone reviewed my video before I published it.
