Vasari DAO
We are a decentralized autonomous organization that discovers and supports contemporary artists with talent and passion, publicizing their artworks as NFTs. All procedures are based on open discussions by the community members. We aim to destroy the conventional perception of contemporary art that is abstruse and exclusive.
Background
Vasari DAO questions the anachronistic system of the contemporary art scene that continues an imbalanced model of monetizing artists. With ever-increasing numbers of white-wall institutions and academism, the vicious confusion between a priori values of fine art and survival in the art world requires a momentous change. With the development of blockchain, Vasari DAO aims to facilitate artists to express themselves to define our generational phenomena through technological medium.
Our Mission
We provide an opportunity for the general public to participate in the artist’s valuation, which was solely done by traditional collectors before.
We grant the cost of creating artworks and living for artists who have financial problems despite their talents and passion.
We create windows for sales of artworks in forms such as installation, video and conceptual, generally considered difficult to sell compared to paintings, by reshaping artworks into high-quality NFTs.
We establish a sustainable contemporary art market through a circular model of depositing some of the sales proceeds of NFT, investing them on other artists, and distributing them to our governance participants.
We present an agora of contemporary art where artists, curators, buyers and the public can have an open discussion to improve understandings of contemporary art, which have been considered as exclusive.
We build community where the artist’s “fans” can freely participate and engage with artworks.
Our System
Selection and Funding
During the application period, we receive applications from artists. The artists applying for grants submit applications according to the form displaying portfolios, careers, the concept of the work to be released through us, and the production plan.
The submitted artists’ work plans will be disclosed to DAO members. The members of DAO will vote for the artist whom they want to support.
The artist with the most votes will be selected as the candidate. In addition to receiving a predetermined amount of subsidies, the artist will be provided with technical support to produce the artwork as an NFT.
We recruit artists who wish to sell undisclosed works that were never sold anywhere before on a rolling basis. The members of DAO vote for whether to create a market on the artwork or not.
Production and Sales of NFT
The selected artist will produce NFT works according to the submitted plan. This process may be reshaping an undisclosed existing artwork or new ones into an NFT. The number of artworks to be issued as NFT and the price of it will be determined after thorough consultation with the artist.
The NFTs will be sold through Vasari DAO’s platform. Depending on the number and type of work, the sales method will be based either on auction bidding or minting.
Of the works sold, n% will be distributed to the artist as sales revenue, m% will be used as funds for the next round, and 100-(n+m)% will be spent as operating expenses for DAO.
*The distribution ratio of the sales proceeds may depend on the accordance of DAO members.
