It's time to discuss EverQuest and how to keep it Alive and Relevant for the future and this means bringing in new players to EverQuest as well as retaining those that are here and bringing back those from the past. Listen up Daybreak and EG7 this is what EverQuest needs!

EverQuest is a Classic MMORPG and nostalgia has mostly kept it alive for all these years, but there comes a point where they will need to push it further if they want it to survive. Today I want to talk about how EverQuest can survive as a franchise that we all love and enjoy. There are some obvious paths it could take : Releasing an EverQuest 3 and refresh it with a new entry would be the most likely route that Daybreak and EG7 could take but also there is the other often discussed way - which is remaking the original EverQuest with modern graphics and updated UI. Now I've talked about that many times on the channel, and although both of those options sound fantastic, today, I would rather explore how to keep the actual Original EverQuest alive as it exists today on LIVE official servers.
And to start this off, I want to look at the largest detracters from the game and the first that I hear new players always say makes them pack up and leave the game is the UI, the interface is horrendously outdated. From what I understand, now that they are on a 64 bit client, this is something they are looking at. First of all, a scalable UI would be great, but it needs a complete overhaul. In my opinion, get rid of the advanced loot, or overhaul it completely to be more understandable for someone new. EverQuest needs just a simple need before greed system in my opinion. And another point I want to make, if you are remaking the UI anyway, make it look GOOD, people spend a ton of time looking at the UI in these classic MMOs and a nice, fresh, clean UI would go a long way. Of course, functionality is always the most important factor, but there are so many graphical enhancements I think EverQuest needs. Most specifically I think of that Microsoft Paint style map system. Sure, it gets the job done, but I think we deserve much better.
Next I want to talk about a smaller graphical overhaul for EverQuest. I don't mean a complete remake, although that would be fan-freaking-tastic. I'm talking about updating the player models and then start updating the models for all the mobs. Look, I know, this is a fantastic undertaking, but they NEED and deserve it. Do your best to retain the same artistic style, but just make them look anywhere near modern, or even up to 2004ish standards would be a drastic improvement. Now the key here is that the animations have to look good on these new models. You can't just slap the same animations on it, it will look silly. After that, start redoing textures for the ground, and for the various wall textures and the like, before long, EverQuest could be looking "old school good".
Another big feature that, in my mind anyway, really wouldn't be all that hard to implement, but is something that horrendously outdates the game is the fact that you can't properly sheathe your weapon. We all run around with our weapon that we have equipped. With new models, please add a sheathe option. Us old school EverQuest fans overlook this, but it's something that fresh, new eyes always notice and it irks them to no end.
