WhatsApp Chat Lock feature is now available: Here is how to enable
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and go to the specific chat that you want to put a lock.
Step 2: Visit the profile section of the chat.
Step 3: Scroll down and tap on Chat Lock option then enable it.
Step 4: Lock the chat using your phone's registered fingerprint. You are all set now.
Note: Your locked chats will be visible in the Locked Chats section, which will be visible on the top of the main WhatsApp page.
WhatsApp rolled out the new Chat Lock feature for everyone and it is now visible on a user's profile section. The new update lets anyone put a lock to specific WhatsApp chats, which no one will be able to check out. This feature would be helpful in times when you need to hand over the device to a stranger for some work and you don't want that person to read your personal chats.
The new WhatsApp Chat Lock option also automatically hides the contents of the chat in notifications too, which means that your privacy is protected. The platform notifies about the new messages from locked chats by just saying you have a new message from a chat. But, when you open the app, you don't see the new message because it is hidden in the Locked folder. Hence, your privacy is protected.
Locking a chat takes that thread out of the inbox and puts it behind its own folder that can only be accessed with your device password or biometric, like a fingerprint. It also automatically hides the contents of that chat in notifications, too.
We think this feature will be great for people who have reason to share their phones from time to time with a family member or those moments where someone else is holding your phone at the exact moment an extra special chat arrives. You can lock a chat by tapping the name of a one-to-one or group and selecting the lock option. To reveal these chats, slowly pull down on your inbox and enter your phone password or biometric.
Over the next few months, we’re going to be adding more options for Chat Lock, including locking for companion devices and creating a custom password for your chats so that you can use a unique password different from the one you use for your phone.
