A Minecraft server is run by Java on a Windows computer and is the first developed version of how Minecraft got started. There were no Windows versions or tablet, or console versions when Minecraft first came out. There was only Minecraft Java.
The advantage of installing a Minecraft Java server is that it will allow you to download and install community-built mods that are absolutely free! There are so many out there that will give you hours of amazingly fun gameplay!
