183The Crater is a completely optional area in Vanaheim, in which you gain access to it by finishing the Favor, Scent for Survival. You have access to this Favor after the Creatures of Prophecy main quest is complete.
In the northwestern portion of The Plains, there is a gate being blocked by a Seidr poison totem, with seemingly no way to get to the totem. However, the totem is right on the other side of the gate, so you can use Sigil Arrows to extend the freezing blast of your Leviathan Axe and stop the poison, allowing you to open the gate. There is a Nornir Chest behind the gate, in the little camp.
