How to: Photograph the Moon with a DSLR Camera
1,413It is a full moon out, so I thought it would be a great time to show you the best settings to take a picture on a DSLR camera. Of course it all depends on tons of factors, but I am going to put you in the right direction.
This also works with smart phones as well. For a lot of Android phones like the Galaxy S7, manual mode is standard. If you have an iPhone, you need to download a manual camera from the app store. The same basic ideas are applied to cameras. Low ISO and low shutter speeds. Auto settings on phones ruin the moon and make it blown out and too bright.
Just remember, low ISO, 100-300 is fine. Fstop, not too important, but lower numbers let more light in, so remember that. Shutter speed: 1/300 - 1/500 should do it. Just play around to get the best shot.
Camera in this video was a Nikon D3100 with 300mm lens. But these settings should work for any DSLR or even a point and shoot camera with manual settings.
