Setup
Open the game board in the middle of the playing area.
Take a rack and place it in front of each player
Have each player drawing 1 tile out of the tile bag. The player with the letter closest to A goes first. A blank tile beats any letter.
Starting with the first player, and then going clockwise, each player takes 7 tiles from the tile bag. Place the tiles on your rack, but don’t let anyone see the tiles you picked.
And now you are ready to learn How to Play
Your goal is to have the highest score by placing letters to form words, crossword-style on the gameboard.
The first player must start by adding a word where at least one letter covers the center square. Words can be formed either horizontally or vertically, left to right or top to bottom.
Each letter has a score value. Sum the values. For example, this word gives 4+1+1+3 – for a total of 9 points.
The colored squares on the board, like the one on the center square allow you to multiply either the word or letter value. For example, this square doubles the first word score value. So my score total would be 18 – 9 multiplied by two.
Note that colored square bonuses are only counted on the turn letters are first placed on them.
Write down your score, refill your rack to 7 tiles and pass to the next player.
Any new word placed must connect with at least 1 letter already on the gameboard and all touching letter tiles must form complete words.
You can also score words you modify by adding new letters. For example, by adding these 3 letters a new word is formed. Note that no tile may be moved or replaced after it has been played.
Blank tiles have no value but can be used as any letter. When using a blank, you must announce what letter it is. This letter cannot be changed during the game.
You can play any word listed in the dictionary. Nouns, names, abbreviations, acronyms are not allowed.
Any player may challenge a word before the next player starts their turn. If that happens look at the dictionary. If it isn’t there, take back your letters and skip your turn. Otherwise, score your word and your challenger loses their next turn.
If you can’t make a word during your turn, you can exchange all or some of your letters by replacing them with an equivalent number from the bag. When you choose this action, you must skip your turn.
You can also pass your turn if you do not wish to place a word.
If during your turn you clear your rack and use all 7 tiles, you score a massive 50 points in addition to your word score!
The game ends when all tiles have been drawn from the bag and one player empties their rack or when every player passes twice in a row.
Count the points of your unplayed letters and reduce them from your score total.
The player with the highest final score wins!
Hope you enjoy!
