The video recording capabilities on the PlayStation 5 are a big leap over the PS4. By default, the PS5 always stores up to your most recent 60 minutes of gameplay in 1080p at 60 frames per second, which can be saved to your console using the Save Recent Gameplay feature. Alternatively, if you choose to manually start recording your gameplay with your custom recording settings, you can record your PS5 gameplay in up to 4K. I'll also show you how to find your PS5 video captures.

Now let's walk through the steps to record gameplay on your PS5.

Step 1. Press the "Create" button on your PlayStation DualSense controller when you get to a part in a game where you want to either start recording a video, or save a video of up to your last one hour of gameplay. A menu appears along the bottom of the screen.

Step 2. Click "Capture Options" to bring up a menu where you can review the options associated with manually capturing videos on your PS5. A menu is displayed.

Step 3. Click "Video Clip File Type" to open a menu. You can choose for your videos to be recorded in either the WebM format or MP4. Choose "Manual Recording Resolution" to adjust the resolution your videos are captured in. And finally, choose whether or not to include your mic's audio or your party's audio in your recorded gameplay video.

Step 4. In the center of the Create menu you'll have two options. Click Save Recent Gameplay on the left if you want to automatically save either the last 15 or 30 seconds of your gameplay, or save up to the last hour of your gameplay. As a reminder, if you save videos with this method, your video will automatically be in 1080p at 60 frames per second. Click "Start New Recording" on the right if you just want to record your upcoming gameplay. This will use the settings you set in the capture options to record your PS5 gameplay video in up to 4k. You'll see the recording icon and a timer at the top of the screen that tells you how long you've been recording video on your PlayStation 5. Click "Stop Recording" to stop your video recording at any time. In both cases you'll see your captured video populated on the left side of the Create bar.

You can see your recorded videos by clicking "Media Gallery" on your PS5 home screen. Clicking any of your recorded videos in your PS5 Media Gallery will start playing them. Moving a thumbstick or pressing a button will display a head's up menu where you can choose to share your video capture to a connected social media account, add it to your favorites, edit it or delete it. Additionally, you can also click more to bring up a menu where you can choose to copy this specific video capture to a connected USB drive, or see metadata information associated with that video, such as the creation date, time, size, who created it and more.
