It's also possible for 576i in 50 fps with the "one frame late half transparent filter" and the fraps method, however Handbrake does not work quite so well for PAL(the aretefacts are the same as with 480i but the video is too slow for it to cover them up).
As far as 288p (the PAL version of 240p) none of these methods will work / the results will be very unsatisfying or even hard to look at.
