Certain monsters and scenarios in a fantasy D&D world are going to have rules and tricks to them the players or even their characters aren't aware of. So how is a DM to educate them during the game without just giving everything away.

I sent the group against a troll. The group is new enough that I don't think they realised that there is a "trick" to certain monsters. none of them used fire and the troll gave them a really bad time.How do you convey the "trick" or tactics to fight a new type of monster that the team hasn't come up against yet without seeming like you're just giving them in information.
