But the day Donald Trump was inaugurated, he declared an energy emergency and rolled back rules on environmental justice and protections that had helped communities along the Gulf coast resist against the creation of more LNG facilities.
Now, residents along the Texas and Louisiana coasts, from which the vast majority of the nation’s LNG flows, are facing a different kind of emergency.
"Our community is already surrounded by pollution,” said Roishetta Ozane, a resident and activist in Lake Charles, Louisiana. “It’s like a death sentence.”
