The 2017 Elantra now shares its styling with the rest of the Hyundai lineup, with a large hexagonal grille and stretched headlights. It's also larger than before, providing above average interior space, but the engineers managed to shed some weight in the process.
The Elantra's interior has also received a makeover and makes use of higher quality materials. Safety hasn't been ignored, either, with new available features that include frontal collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic alerts.
New engines round out the improvements with a slightly higher output of 147 horsepower from the 2.0-liter four-cylinder that is estimated to achieve 33 mpg combined with the six-speed automatic transmission. A turbocharged 1.4 liter will also be available in the Eco model that will follow the standard Elantra to market. This engine is slated to produce 128 hp and return 37 mpg combined.
