One might reasonably argue that NES Remix is less of a game than an ad for the Wii U (and 3DS) Virtual Console. Nearly every game represented has a link to purchase the full game from the eShop.

But what Sean discovered next made his blood boil: the complete ROM of every single one of these 8-bit retro games already exist in their entirety on NES Remix disc!

Sean demonstrates this by deliberately ignoring the stated goals of several challenges to fulfill them in the most circuitous way possible in the time allotted.

Watch the unedited game clips here:
• Almost Minus World:    • NES Remix: Almost Minus World
• Restore the Zelda Life Gauge with the Heart Container from the first dungeon:    • NES Remix: Fully Restore Your Life Ga...

Even before this revelation, we were having trouble understanding exactly who is the intended audience for NES Remix. Was it nostalgic retro gamers who wanted to relive past glories, and experience watered down Wario Ware style challenges? Was it to gauge interest in retro games from the younger generation of gamers, and then get them (or their parents) to spend more money on those games (which already existed on their Wii U thanks to NES Remix, cough cough cough)? In the former case, there are much more interesting things that experienced gamers could cook up. In the latter case, it's a rip-off for everyone. Make the retro games an unlockable, at least! Or charge more for NES Remix.

Either way, a second one was ultimately released... and Sean bought it anyway.

(We're pulling this video from the That's Orange archives; this game is nearly two years old now, but Sean's thoughts about it still stand.)
