After spending a hard minute deciding whether I wanted to walk away or refuse to except The Father’s will, I choose to walk away. The game didn’t officially end from there so I decided to replay the ending mission and chose to refuse/resist, just so I can see the nuclear explosion that is. Some say that this is a good ending. The world may never be the same but the Father is where he belongs, inside a dark, creepy bunker with no one except for the young rookie. Unfortunately…that is not true. No matter what happens to the Father in Farcry 5, there is never a good ending. Nothing has been accomplished and everything that was accomplished was for nothing. Joseph was a man who was deeply troubled that needed serious help. But when Hope County tried doing what they needed to do, it was too late. They, in a way, let The Father torture innocent American civilians and turn them into his religious puppets. They kept saying that one day, The Father will be arrested and sent to a place where he truly belonged, Hell. But that saying never happened, not even close. They let their hypocritical inner fears control them and all of their actions. The only true patriots that ever existed in the game were the Anti-Government conspiracy theorists, the Peggy rebels who escaped the cult, the black pastor who understood and accepted the consequences of fighting against an authoritarian group, the outsiders who didn’t fit in with the rest of American society, the ordinary fighters who actually fought for their rights without questioning it, and my main character, The Rookie. Everyone else was part of a group that lies to them, that betrays them, that tries to do what they’re fighting against. This is how John, Jacob, and Faith were able to help The Father take over Hope County and do the horrible things they did.

Just like with everything else in life, this was a good lesson about the importance of decision making. Every leader has to face this problem. Every leader has to think long and hard about the pros and cons of a hard decision. But once they make that hard decision, there is no turning back. Just look at Kennedy, he was a great man that sercumed to bad decision making. If it wasn’t for the last minute decision to end American-Cuban operations, we could have ended up starting World War 3. Or what about Reagan. If he decided not to back down on Russia, they could have taken over the US in a snap of a finger. Or what about Bush and the Iraq War. If he kept playing his little “weapons of mass destruction” game for just a little bit longer, ISIS and the Taliban could have grown to scales that we have never seen before. If I kept the ending of Farcry how it was, we would have arrived in Missoula only to end up nuking the state of Montana, just like what happened in the “good” ending. But hey, at least life continues on, even after a nuclear winter.
