🔴'I could not pass up.' New NKU women's basketball coach Jeff Hans ready for DI move🔴
0HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Kentucky ‒ Jeff Hans said there were few jobs he would have considered leaving Thomas More University women's basketball for.
An NCAA Division I position just eight miles from his current job was one of them. Northern Kentucky University on Monday named Hans as its new head coach, replacing Camryn Volz, who was 106-126 in eight seasons at the helm. NKU was 11-20 this past season.
Hans is moving after 13 seasons at Thomas More University, where he led the women’s basketball program to new levels of success. Hans guided the Saints to a 339-42 record (.889), eight conference regular season titles, eight conference tournament titles, 11 national tournament berths, including two NCAA Division III National Championships, one NAIA National Championship, and two NAIA National runners-up.
This past season was TMU’s first at the NCAA Division II level and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Saints recorded an overall record of 18-11 on the season and a G-MAC record of 13-7.
"When the opportunity comes, you got to take advantage of it," Hans said. "You can’t sit back and wait because you don’t know if the opportunity will ever come again. When this job came open, I felt like it was the right time to make the move, come here and be a Norse. There was a lot of great things at Thomas More, but this opportunity here, I could not pass up."
NKU president Dr. Cady Short-Thompson said his track record of success speaks volumes.
"He supports his student-athletes both on and off the court, demonstrating unwavering commitment to their growth and triumphs. With deep roots in the community, I am confident he will lead NKU's women's basketball program to new heights," Short-Thompson said in a release.
Athletic Director Christina Roybal said Hans' success at three levels of college basketball combined with his ability to build strong relationships put him above the rest.
