Well, the late ’90s slasher boom pretty much peaked the moment it began. Wes Craven’s Scream kicked things off in a big way and most of that credit largely goes to Kevin Williamson’s razor- sharp script, which nailed that perfect balance of self- aware humor and genuine scares. So when Williamson followed it up a year later with I Know What You Did Last Summer, which was a more traditional slasher without the meta edge. Sadly, the comparisons were inevitable, and the result was not exactly flattering.
