I May Not Be Able To Show My Face on YouTube Again AFTER This Video! | Professor of Rock
We all have those songs—the ones we blast in the car but quickly turn down when we come to a stoplight. You know what I’m talking about, songs we pretend not to know every word to… We often call them guilty pleasures. Tracks that are just SO UNCOOL…So we listen to them in secret when we think no one else is around…Today, we’re coming clean in the ultimate musical confession booth and counting five guilty pleasures most of us are embarrassed to admit we love. On this countdown, we’ve got the theme song from The Monkees, a manufactured boy band that has finally started to get the rock cred they deserve, as well as Copacabana, a song that was made into a TV movie and a Broadway musical that everyone sings along to even if they won’t admit it, and my #1 pick by Paula Abdul will most definitely lose me some subscribers… Let the hate begin. I hope you’ll drop your inhibitions and embrace my top 5 Guilty Pleasures… Love ‘em or hate ‘em I swear you’ll be entertained… NEXT on the Professor of Rock.

Okay, so I can sum up today’s episode in just two words: Guilty Pleasures. Now here’s the thing… I really don’t believe in guilt pleasures… We like what we like. What is one man’s trash is another man’s Treasure and vice versa… but Just like one hit wonders the term guilty pleasure is well known. So for those purposes, I will use it here and there…I like to call them confidential treasures. from cheesy pop anthems to over-the-top ballads, today’s featured tracks may be deemed“uncool”. but there’s a reason they hit the top of the charts and sold a lot of records…to a degree. Look- not all songs are created equal. All of us have those songs that are a little easier to sing along to in secret. But today, I’m dropping all pretense… and owning, embracing, and counting down my Top 5 Guilty Pleasure picks. Let’s see if you love ‘em or hate ‘em… I think I’m gonna piss a lot of people off… A lot of hate will come my way here…Oh well, I’m going to be a little vulnerable… So let’s get it on.
Alright, kicking off the countdown at #5 it’s the Theme Song from The Monkees television show. We all remember this one. We’ve of course covered The Monkees before on the channel, featuring hits like Daydream Believer, I’m a Believer, and Last Train to Clarksville. All great songs. But I’ve got to throw this one in there too. Yeah, it’s completely goofy. But it’s also undeniably catchy and nostalgic. In the mid-60s, American TV producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider wanted to create a sitcom that would tap into the Beatlemania. Inspired by films like A Hard Day’s Night and Help!, they envisioned a show about a quirky, fun-loving rock band.
400-plus hopefuls auditioned, but in the end, four young performers were selected: Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. Each brought something unique—Dolenz was an actor and natural comedian, Jones was a polished stage performer, Nesmith was a skilled guitarist and songwriter, and Tork.
