I played Assassin's Creed 1 in 2025... A game that introduced us to Altair, Desmond, Assassins, Templars, Abstergo and the Pieces of Eden. I thought I’d revisit this classic after the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows to see what it was that the series was missing, why AC1 did so well for Ubisoft. I found Assassin's Creed Shadows fun but it was lacking a personality, an identity that Assassin's Creed games that originally got us hooked. I love Altair, Ezio and all those early Assassin’s Creed games. In this retrospective I discuss what makes Assassin's Creed 1 so special, even 17 years later... a gaming retrospective for AC1
