This story was written by Mr. Richard Sharpe Shaver and edited by Mr. Ray Palmer. It was published in Amazing Stories, March of 1945.

The background is a matte I created, combining footage from Planet Zoo with statues taken from the cover of Amazing Stories, June of 1947. They were painted by Mr. Robert Gibson Jones. The full background can be found as an ambient video here:

I don't know if this is confirmed, but I read a quote from Mr. Forrest J. Ackermann saying that Mr. Palmer once told him that Mr. Shaver had indeed been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and spent some time in a mental institution, although I'm not aware of any other records confirming this. It tracks, though.

The soundtrack:
Tom Waits, "Underground"
Donald Thorne, "Flying Saucer"
A. Gunn, "Two Old Timers"
Johnny Hawksworth Orchestra, "Suspense Musical Saw"
William Trytel, "Saw Theme"
John Scott, "Nerve Centre"
Syd Dale, "Forewarning"
