I remixed Hyrule Field from Ocarina of Time into EDM w/@zreosq & a REAL STRING QUARTET: @ATLYSmusic
43I have NEVER. ever. EVER made a song like this before.
and my GOD was it fun to make.
I first heard about Atlys at VGM Con 2024. I saw them do their arrangement (made by the lovely Ari Fisher) of Hyrule Field live and I WEPT. I knew I had to approach them for a remix, so I nervously approached these top tier musicians and said, "Hey, I'm Theology. I make EDM and I cried like a baby when I heard Hyrule Field. I wanna remix it!"
They were like, "yeah, here's our email!" Come to find out they have worked with one of TWO people I like in Mainstream EDM still... Seven Lions.
Life happened and we forgot about it for a while, but one day I was like, "oh yeah, I was supposed to make that remix." So sometime in October, I emailed them again, and they sent me the stems. I got to work on a roadtrip that I took with Maddy across the country (an appropriate place to make a remix of this... was I on AMERICA'S HYRULE FIELD?! lulz). Yeah, that's right. I arranged this all in the car.
Most VGM is perfect ro remix into EDM because it has a looping musical idea. Hyrule Field, as you know, is a SYMPHONY, so I had to really get out of the "repetitive comfort zone" and do something really different. Thus, I combined all the different sections, fusing them with uplifting trance, psytrance, and melodic dubstep into one track. It's something I was born to do :)
Thereafter, Ari and I had a few video chats to work out some fine details in the arrangement and mix, and he provided some powerful ideas that brought the track to the next level. I'm so grateful for you my dude!
Anyways, it came to fruition as I debuted it at my Magfest set... but It's about the journey, not the destination. The people you meet along the way are everything, and how you treat them is really what matters.
I hope you enjoy one of the most unique tracks I've ever made π₯°π
