Ian Cowell & His Band of Exceptional Goblins - LIVE at MAGFest 2024
38I wanted to make sure my 100th video was a good one, so I present to you me and my Band of Exceptional Goblins live from MAGFest Prime! This show took place January 19th in the Jamspace at MAGFest. If you're unfamiliar with MAGFest, it's THE convention celebrating video games, video game music, and everything surrounding the culture of gaming. I have wanted to play MAGFest for many years, having played it's west coast variant MAGWest on multiple occasions. This is probably the best show I've had and it wouldn't be what it was without the help of the fantastic musicians involved and the crew that came together to make this happen.
I have a lot I could say about the lead up to this show, the emotions involved, the hard work that went into it, but I think this video will say it all. I look at this show as the turning point in where I want to go with a band. I have been working on a full-length album with this group of musicians (and some others) and I look at this as the "coming out party" of this lineup. I will continue doing solo works in my usual style, but bringing these arrangements to life with this band is what I've dreamed of. They bring out the best in me as a musician and push me to be better! They are my friends, my peers, they inspire me and challenge me. Having them along sweetens the pot. We had some really special guests join us who we are lucky to be friends with. In addition to our core band we have Lacey Johnson, Audio Mocha, and Chuck Salamone joining us for a few special tunes. I want to thank them for helping to bring my vision to life. I feel a little corny calling this "my vision" but that's what it is! This is what I wanted it to be!
