IkaDoom | God-like | No Failure Run
Let's be honest, you know this was coming the moment the news arrive of the mod having a big ol' bullethell boss fight. I ran straight into it like a fly to a trap, a fast car with no breaks upon a brick wall, or if you'd like, a bullet shot to a target.
Really fascinating with this one. It feels like aeons ago that Touhou Doom seems like one of the few bullethell focused mods out there for Doom, but now we've got ourselves a whole new fighter in the party. IkaDoom, while not as bullethelly as Touhou Doom even in the highest difficulty, does have a slight mechanical change over the latter that gives it an edge. The ability to swap shields that can absorb enemy bullets.
People who know even remotely of Ikaruga would know the ins and outs, so I'll spare you the specific minute details. Basic gist of it is that if I'm using the same shield color as a projectile, it gets absorbed into my power which then I can use against the enemy when fully charged. There's things as well like double damage if I'm using the opposite color from the enemy, so there's incentives to swap tactics on the fly. Really hectic when the crowd starts going and multiple colored bullets require you swap nearly milliseconds apart from each projectile.
But, of course! I haven't even gotten to this map we're currently embarking on! You see, like I mentioned before, IkaDoom isn't quite up to Touhou Doom in terms of sheer bullets on the screen, even on the Ideal difficulty. However, I am given the option to scoot over to a map the developer has prepared with a very special boss. One that suits my palette just fine. Naturally, I beat it in this video.
I'm not sure if the difficulty changes how the boss operates, but just to make sure I get the full package, I still ran it on Ideal. Not quite damageless or in any way perfect, but I'd like to think my performance wasn't too bad here, aside from that final blast of flames that I barely saved myself from.
