Final Fantasy VII’s 1998 PC release wasn’t quite as straightforward a port as you might have assumed, with Square battling itself to try and mangle something into shape for a number of reasons. Intended as a short mention in a previous video, this instead turned into a whole topic by itself because it’s just so bloody interesting and weird that a game as important as Final Fantasy VII might have had to go through so much nonsense, and that Square Enix today still feels the impact from its decisions in the 90s and 00s.
