The Great Circle is an absolute joy from start to finish. MachineGames are best known for the later Wolfenstein games, so the subject matter isn't too far a stretch - but this game is far more than just new skins and slapping a more well known IP over the top. Instead, they have carefully crafted a story that would be worthy of cinema release - and although Dial of Destiny and Crystal Skull were not awful, this one would sit comfortably within the original trilogy.

Jones finds himself on a quest to recover a stolen artifact from Marshall College and it will see him globetrotting to destinations like Giza, Vatican City, Shaghai as he races against the nazis (led by the brilliantly written and played Emmerich Voss, another archaeologist) to stop them from using the artifact for evil. You find yourself partnered with journalist Gina, who is searching for her sister - and are constantly pursued by the Nephilim order of giants who (led by Locus, played by the late Tony Todd) will do anything to protect the secrets of said artifact. Troy Baker is utterly stunning in his role, perfectly emulating a young Harrison Ford and his mannerisms - It's almost career best work, and I only say this because I don't want to take away from his other phenomenal roles such as Joel in the Last of Us, Joker in Arkham Knight or Ocelot in MGS V. Regardless, it's easy to see why he's the most valuable VA in videogames at this point in time. It would also be remiss of me to not mention the work of Gordy Haab, who emulates John Williams so well that this score is like a respectful labour of love.

On seeing the gameplay when it was unveiled, I didn't really know how first person would work with Indiana Jones and will be the first to hold my hands up to say I had several doubts. It's clear that this option was taken to distance itself from Uncharted or Tomb Raider (which is amusing considering that without Jones, they would not exist), but after playing it, the first person take makes this an incredibly authentic and immersive experience - from combat to stealth to traversal. Combat is incredibly fun, and whilst I know that some have criticised the firearms system, who wants to play an Indiana Jones FPS? The lefts, rights and counters are so much fun to throw that the only way that punching Nazis would be more fun, would be to share a room without windows with Elon Musk.

The areas and maps are really well constructed and littered with collectibles that will keep you coming back to the areas without getting tired - as well as additional mysteries or "field work" which serves as side quests that will pad out the story. You're never stuck for something to do - and the game is as large as you want it to be without getting tiresome. There are a couple of downsides, with some more tedious pace killing areas later game and some definite glitches and bugs with enemy AI being dumb as fuck on occasion, as well as enemies not spawning altogether - but these minor issues will not stop me revisiting to claim a platinum on PS5 after its release on April 17th.
