This game is pretty easy. In beginning, it can be tough with when you start the game. You have a small crew of characters, high chance of fatigue and your trying to grasp the game mechanics. But as you progress further in game it does get easier when you get decent ships for fighters, more characters and general gist of game.

Most of battles in this game can be won easily(even if you have bad ships, parts, level or crew) by retreating your ship backwards and use the avoid skill. After wards, patiently wait for your gauge to turn red and your opponent gauge to turn red. If your opponent have a red gauge, it will entice them use barrage. So move forward and wait for enemy barrage. Every attack in this game will leave your ship defenseless. So after every attack it is a good opportunity to counter attack. Normal attacks have a smaller window of opportunity compared to a barrage attack. Repeat and rinse this strategy throughout the game and your set.

The only exception for this strategy is big boss ships. You will defiantly notice a boss fight by it's mammoth size ship. Since their damage output is really high, it is really risky using that strategy if they do not use barrage attack. Don't worry! Their biggest downfall is their close range attack. Most of them don't have one or they deal very little damage. So charge forward and attack, so you can slowly chip their health.
