Install Linux on Windows with WSL

Developers can access the power of both Windows and Linux at the same time on a Windows machine. The Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) lets developers install a Linux distribution (such as Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Kali, Debian, Arch Linux, etc) and use Linux applications, utilities, and Bash command-line tools directly on Windows, unmodified, without the overhead of a traditional virtual machine or dualboot setup.

Installation :

*Step1 :
Head over to Windows Features
Enable "Windows Subsystem for Linux" & "Virtual Machine Platform"

*Step2 :
Enable Virtualization for your system by going to the system BIOS

*Step3 :
Go to Microsoft Store and install "Windows Terminal"

*Step4 :
Launch Windows Terminal and install WSL by using this command :
wsl --install

*Step5 :
Go to Microsoft Store and install UBUNTU app (if it does not get installed automatically)

*Step6 :
Install basic apps for the operating system by using these commands in the terminal :
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install neofetch
sudo apt install nautilus
touch /home/tech/.gtk-bookmarks

*Step7 :
Install Coding Essentials by using these commands :
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install build-essential

sudo apt install gedit

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common apt-transport-https curl
curl -sSL https://packages.microsoft.com/keys/microsoft.asc | sudo apt-key add -
sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/vscode stable main"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install code

sudo apt-get install gedit-plugins


*Step8 :
Run these commands one by one to enable the OS for GUI based applications :
sudo apt update
sudo apt install x11-apps
xeyes &
xcalc
sudo apt install octave
octave --gui &

*For Launching the Linux Terminal :
Launch "Windows Terminal"
Type in "wsl" and press Enter
There you are !

In case it is giving wierd bugs and errors, go to Windows Terminal, use the command
wsl --uninstall
Restart your system, and then try to start the installation from beginning
