Installing Sockets Into The PCB Of A Vintage Commodore 2001 PET Computer RAM 2114 - Episode 1474
CRANK UP YOUR VOLUME!!!
This is a long video...it is my first go at replacing sockets in a computer in a long time...and there are of course issues...but as always, take to slow, be patient...and do not touch the hot part of the soldering iron...and if you think you messed up, take your time and make sure that all is well and good...
I can not get stalled on this project...I can not...so, I have to get out today and get the things that I need to get on this and get this resolved...and can I find my soldering iron...no, of course not...anyway, I need to get sockets, solder them into two PET boards, and then try the 2114 RAM chips...I would suspect there is one bad one...perhaps two...but we shall see...so I need 18 pin sockets, a soldering iron, and there are other sockets I am looking for that I would suspect they do not have...but I will look, I will ask...more and more this store seems to have less and less that I need...so I guess I will go to the online world and get things shipped...perhaps Rudy knows of a good place to source vintage parts...maybe...anyway, off I go to the store...there are a couple of surprises in this one...and indeed, I am missing my remote lav microphone...I will check the mail soon...things should arrive...I hope...also, I think my one phone has some serious issues with the internal microphone...and that does not help matters at all...this too shall pass...if you know of a good place to order things from, let me know!
