Instant Analysis: Penn State's Blue-White Game
99Penn State football concluded its spring season with the 2022 Blue-White Game at Beaver Stadium. It was a modified scrimmage due to a lack of depth on the offensive line with eight periods of offense versus defense, and special teams work intermingled between them.
Blue White Illustrated was on hand to take in the even and recap what they saw in their post-game wrap-up. Senior Editor Nate Bauer, analyst Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel give you their main takeaways, react to Franklin's comments, and then look ahead to what is next for the team this summer.
Pickel starts by addressing the biggest question of the spring, which centers around the offensive line. Can the Nittany Lions finally take a positive step up front? Franklin is aware of how this cycle has played out every season,
"Offensive line. Who is going to replace the guys that left? Can we take a step where you guys [the media] ask me about the offensive line, I say something, and then we back it up."
Fans have been frustrated for several seasons about the positivity coming out of spring football not translating to the fall. The team will get several key players, including transfer Hunter Nourzad to beef up the numbers up front this summer.
While T-Frank found some observations from practice, Bauer cautions fans about taking too much from a scrimmage. He does evaluate what he saw from the offense and the quarterbacks in particular but doesn't place too much stock in one viewing. After that, he focuses on the punting situation, which was Franklin's first area of concern when asked what questions his team still needs to answer.
