2If there’s a card that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 reminds us of, it’s the 2014-era GeForce GTX 970. That graphics card enabled users to experience 1080p gaming with max settings and high framerates without having to break the bank.
The GTX 970 offered excellent performance on games like the Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight, both of which are GPU-intensive even now. And, the GTX 970 is a legend thanks to that kind of performance. The Nvidia RTX 3070 shows the kind of promise to continue in its place for the next generation of GPUs.
It’s not a perfect comparison. While the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 was released for a much more reasonable $329 (about £250, AU$460), the RTX 3070 will set you back $499 (£469, AU$809). Considering how much the last generation of Turing cards went for though, at least Nvidia didn’t bake in another price hike.
With that said, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 still brings 4K gaming to the masses. To boot up something like the newly-released Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K doesn’t require thousands of dollars invested in your system. In fact, its performance almost mirrors that of the RTX 2080 Ti at 4K, quite the feat considering that last generation’s flagship was initially priced at $1,199 (£1,099, AU$1,899), more than double the cost of an RTX 3070.
