27In this video, Rami Radi, a Solution Architect in Intel’s Data Center Management Solutions group, introduces the latest features of Intel Data Center Manager that focus on data center sustainability. With the increased awareness of how data centers can impact the environment and the strict regulations in place to ensure data centers are greener, Intel DCM has added many new features to address today's growing data center sustainability needs. These features allow data center managers to measure, model, and control the operational carbon footprint of their data centers.
One of the standout features is the Carbon Emission Trend Gadget, which allows users to view the annual and monthly actual and projected carbon emissions of their data center. This gadget calculates the carbon emissions for each device based on its power consumption, making it simple yet granular and accurate. Additionally, the Sustainability tab provides a more detailed version of the carbon emissions graph, allowing users to add carbon emission thresholds, receive notifications and alerts, and take pre-emptive actions accordingly.
Another valuable feature is the ability to see which servers in the environment are underutilized, helping users take down or consolidate ghost or zombie servers that are unnecessarily consuming space and power. By consolidating these systems, DCM also shows how much carbon emissions can be reduced.
