INTRO TO LOST WAX CASTING - maker coin challenge by VOGMAN
YouTube Casting Challenge : Creating a Maker Coin
It's a challenge , a friendly competition between friends to cast something different with a home foundry, something that will test and stretch our skills. It's a Maker Coin and we each have a 3D print to convert to something more coin like. It's small, it's got a lot of detail on it, and it's not as easy to cast as you may think.
For my approach, I went with Lost Wax Casting, which is something I've never tried before. I needed to make a Silicone mould copy of the coin, then wax copies of the coin, surround these with investment, burn out the wax and replace this with hot metal, both aluminium and copper. It certainly tested me and I've still got a lot to learn.
