Investigating underwater discoveries off the coast of RAF Akrotiri
328Underwater archaeologists have been investigating remains at Dreamers Bay, off the coast of RAF Akrotiri.
The team are made up from the Universities of Southampton and Cyprus. It’s their third season trying to piece together the puzzle of these discoveries, thought to date back to around the 6th or 7th century AD.
The remains include an ancient break water which is around 120 metres long and was probably used to provide shelter for boats in anchorage. Nearby, there are items such as tiles and stone anchors which are thought to be remnants of a shipwreck.
