Ion Fury Playthrough Zone 7 - Act 2: Epicenter (Maximum Fury Difficulty)
This is it, we finally made it to the heart of it all, the epicenter of Heskel's grand plans (had to do it to 'em). This one's quite a doozy, you've got the entirety of the game's roster lining up to rip you a new one in this incredibly confined arena, with little to no cover to help you avoid taking damage from the most brutal of enemies. It's tough and incredibly unrelenting. Especially the first two opening waves and the final Wendigo wave. But once you plan around it enough, the fight can be a bit more manageable. Overall, not "terrible" (especially when compared to slaughter maps), but more than able and willing to give anyone playing it a run for their money.
Once we've defeated Heskel, that's it! Well, until Aftershock comes out (SOON). But yeah, that's Ion Fury, an incredible labor of love and talent that I wish I could experience again with a fresh set of eyes and memories. While playing through it, especially the early levels and the closing levels, you can really see just how much passion went into the game considering it was made by a relatively small team working on such an old engine. Sure, it's not perfect, but it really is one of the few old school boomer shooter revival games (outside of Ultrakill and DUSK) that I truly love, even with some of its shortcomings. It was quite a ride going through it again though, but it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would end up being again since I'd sworn not to do the final fight again (at least not on Maximum Fury again). But I was finally able to gain the achievement that was I wrongfully denied (ok, now I'm really going overboard, but seriously? I had to beat the game twice on Maximum Fury? wth voidpoint).
But now that we're done with this project, I think I might just work on something a little older. Something a little more different and something that I've had in mind for a while to start doing. It'll be hell to go through it, but I think it could be fun, especially doing it in the fashion that a certain Dutchman is quite known for... Anyways, we're doing DOOM (1993). Hope to see ya in the next one!
