IPM Invader, 1979 IPM/Irem
7Shameless rip-off of SPACE INVADERS, although here the game is in full color (not overlay), there is an intermission after 3 and 7 patterns (an amusing "coffee break"), and the game is MUCH easier than SPACE INVADERS. Even the sound effects are the same! Just whittle down the invaders like in the original game, and notice that the last invader moves much slower than in the original. Using the strafing technique in this game will also get you far-- weave back and forth to fire a shot and dodge quickly-- and also stick your cannon just barely to one side of a bunker to nail an invader's side, and so their descending bullets will still hit the bunker and not you. The coffee break is amusing-- a (crudely rendered) mug fills up with "invader coffee" and produces steam! A UFO then drops the number of the next pattern. IPM would, later that year, become known as Irem, who would go on to make a number of famous games like KUNG FU MASTER, MOON PATROL and IN THE HUNT.
