Fish excrement=carbon ie
Fish exhales=ammonia ie nitrogen or poisonous gas

What does this mean...FISH excrement doesn't contain nitrogen and is ODORLESS. Let me explain..

Fish do smell, but carbon dioxide in the water ie
CO2 doesn't smell k. Dead matter in water doesn't smell unless there is no oxygen. Bacteria eat carbon. Carbonated oxygen in the water, not carbon alone ie alot of plants with little water flow is bad. There are numerous news stories of fish excrement helping oceanic plant life and coral.

Fish waste doesn't smell because the nitrogen comes out of their gills. The smell from a fish tank like in a store is just too little water flow and too much fish in one tank. The smell is too much carbon for bacteria, or nitrogen from fish with no plants. It is not waste and gas but odorless waste, it doesn't smell (I'm looking at you mammals). If there is oxygen in your tank, fish excrement is beneficial for plant growth.

Bacteria eat up carbon, plants (lower than bacteria) eat poisonous gas ie nitrogen, a poisonous gas. If your filter is clogged, too much carbon creates carbon dioxide not nitrogen. Too little plant growth creates ammonia or too much carbon. Where as mammals create smell from nitrogen and carbon being released from the intestines only 😐, fish contain no bladder therefore can not mix nitrogen (poisonous liquid or gas) with carbon (odorless solids).

RIP shitty May 2017 via PetSmart after my first pleco disappeared from purchase in March 2017 (cold case) to 2023. Rip freckles something like 2012-2017. When bought.
