With the release of brand new MMO Palia NDA and the closed beta... I finally got my thoughts down on paper after about 20 hours of playing. In this video we will answer the question:
Is Palia an MMORPG for you? and is it even worth playing?
I have gone into this game with a completely unbiased opinion because I understand that the game is not aimed for me anyway.

In the Aid of Avoiding longer term Spoilers in the video I have written up a much more indepth review below.
Once you have completed the initial "Starting Area" the game does open up with an interesting story surrounding the mystery of the ancient human ruins.a very large, Well designed new zone opens up that offers a new tier of materials exclusive to that zone.In addition there is more verticality to climb up and interesting ways to utilise your glider making the exploration in this zone very fun.I can see where they're going with their format and down the line as the Beta is fleshed out and more content is added, New zones will most certainly be part of that expansion. There are additional progression mechanics related to Renoun as a currency that you spend to increase your maximum focus bar but, this right now feels a little shallow and lack luster. I can see this side of the game being expanded later on with a possible skill tree of some kind instead of a binary increase in maximum focus Points.I would feel excited to head to a shrine after accumulating 100 focus points if I knew i was about to unlock a new perk in a specific proffessions skill tree.as for the skill progression itself. Unfortunately it is bare bones right now and upgrades are just gated by levels, materials and Gold... AKA: just the standard gameplay loop. However, as I mentioned in the video, the waiting around for materials to process does not improve as the game goes on, only increases in tedium when materials like cloth and hide and added to the Ore, Stone, Clay and Wood that I showed in the video. As your housing plot expands you gain the ability to place down more processing stations but that is sadly, not a very fun mechanic for me personally.I understand that the point is too go out, fill your bags, come back to your home and then process it so you can head out and explore again, but this gameplay loop is just far too casual and time gatey for me.I would much rather consume MORE materials for a few seconds instead of the standard material consumption for a few minutes. Perhaps the option to do this in the future can be explored? (Coming from Ashes of Creation I like to think my feedback is being heard)This obviously extends to the housing plots and expansions. It just isn't a mechanic I enjoy and I would rather spend DOUBLE even TRIPLE the ammount of materials to finish these builds instantly. 8 Hours for the starting house almost made me quit the game immidiately because I just wanted to progress. I find it fun to be rewarded for the work I put in, I do not find it fun to wait an arbitrary ammount of time just because the game says so.Active play is always more fun than passive play :)I hope you guys enjoy your time in palia and fingers crossed the Devs are some real Gs and continue to improve the game!
