In the early 20th century, the existence of life on other planets of the Solar system was considered highly probable. This was confirmed by new astronomical discoveries. Seasons and channels on Mars, seas on the Moon and clouds on Venus were found. Some scientists believed that the existence of Martian vegetation was proven, and its presence on Venus was possible. But in the 60s and 70s, unmanned spacecraft found that the conditions on the planets closest to Earth were extremely hostile.

Presenter is Vladimir Surdin, astronomer, senior researcher at the Sternberg Astronomical Institute.
