Awkwafina is randomly selected as the Jackpot. She has a monetary value placed on her life & if she lives, She keeps the jackpot. Meanwhile All Californians are legally allowed to hunt her down by any means apart from Guns with bullets.
John Cena is a freelancer that protects the Jackpots & if he helps her survive, she will give him a portion of the money.
That's the premise of the movie.
Would I recommend watching Jackpot as a good movie? No, not at all.
But I would recommend watching it as a time killer, not because it is good, or it will make you think, or that it has a good story, so why would I say BUT?
Watch the trailer, you will see all sorts of representation & whatever, right? Usually in a high budget like this, the movie will be rotten with woke ideology.
So there isn't really that, but the movie does actually make fun of EVERYBODY!
There is not a sexuality, race or gender that is not made fun of. Also, there is not a single inteligent person in the entire movie, the villain is kind of smart, but even he is stupid & he plays hard in the Asian Pride stereotype.
So for that reason alone, I would say watch it because there is no political messaging in this movie...at least not overtly.
2nd, John Cena is actually very cringy but very funny. He's a very decent actor...Awkwafina on the other hand...not so much. She doesn't so much act as she shouts & blurt out lines. Non acting acting, like Seth Rogan.
The time passes pretty fast but the most important thing to do while you are getting over the first 15-20 minutes is to get out of your feelings & just watch. Turn the brain & your logic off & you will see this as a modern day 80s movie where they made fun of everything, but nowhere near as good.
That's my take on Jackpot without getting into the story, which is roughly:
